Kythera has been the most anticipated product from PolarStar in the last decade. This HPA system is a radical departure from all previous systems that PolarStar has produced, as the Kythera does not use a battery, FCU, or any type of electronics. The Kythera is completely mechanical. This means you never have to worry about charging batteries or dealing with sensitive electronics. This also means the system is completely waterproof.

The name "Kythera" (ky-the-ra) was derived from the Antikythera mechanism, which is a mysterious device that divers discovered off the coast of the Greek island of Antikyther. The mechanism was so advanced in design that scientists have studied it for decades to discover its purpose. The machine dates back to the late 2nd century and is the most complex mechanism known from the ancient world. For the next thousand years, nothing as complex is known. The Antikythera mechanism was dedicated to astronomical phenomena and functions as a complex mechanical "computer" that tracks the cycles of the Solar System.

For this reason, we have used the name Kythera for the valve mechanism at the core of PolarStar's new line of mechanical HPA systems. Although it contains very few parts and can be easily installed and maintained, the system features a very intelligent design, unlike competing mechanical systems on the market. The system was designed as a mechanical system from the ground up and uses a realistic trigger mechanism that can be used for single-shot, semi-automatic, and fully automatic systems in AEG guns gearboxes.

The first of these systems is the Kythera SA (Semi-Automatic), a semi-auto only variant for use in AEG gearboxes.

What makes Kythera so unique?

Realistic trigger

What sets this system apart from other mechanical systems is the design of its trigger. The trigger mechanism is designed to replicate the function, weight and feel of a real sharp guns trigger. The hardened steel sears engage and release the stainless steel spool in the same way that the levers of a real firearm engage and release the hammer or firing pin. This gives the trigger a distinct break and reset that you would expect when firing a real semi-automatic firearm. The trigger mechanism in the Kythera SA is also adjustable, allowing the user to fine-tune the trigger resistance. Furthermore, the internal release valve is balanced and the only force acting during release is the main spring. This means that the function and feel of the trigger are independent of input pressure and muzzle velocity.
