How to choose an airsoft helmet?

A helmet is one of the most important types of safety equipment in an intense fight as well as during a game. Protecting your head with the right helmet is essential, so you should pay close attention to its selection.

Especially for younger airsoft players, it is important not to make the mistake of choosing, for example, a helmet that is too big with the excuse that you will “grow into it”. A helmet that doesn’t fit well and falls off when hit provides much less protection, and also if it bounces around on the head unnaturally when moving around or blocks your view. So today we will look at what to consider before choosing an airsoft helmet so that you don’t get sidetracked.

How to correctly measure head circumference

The most important criterion that you should stick to when choosing is the head circumference of the helmet wearer. To do this, use a tape measure, which you run around the head about one or two centimeters above the eyebrows at a height of about two centimeters above the ears. This measurement will then help you choose the size of the helmet you need.

Try it on before the action

Once you have chosen the right model and the helmet arrives at your home, check that it really fits you well. Definitely don’t jump right into action with it on. First, put it on in the comfort of your own home, tighten it sufficiently and walk around the house in it for half an hour or so trying different movements, including those you would use in an airsoft game. You should practice shooting positions to ensure that the helmet does not obstruct your view or fall over your eyes. At the same time, an airsoft helmet should not restrict your movement and must allow you to see over both shoulders and to the sides.

The helmet should not be too loose; on the contrary, it should sit on the head as if it was nailed on. Be aware that most internal fastenings will conform to the shape of your head and stretch slightly with use. If the helmet is comfortable for you, and doesn’t press, pull, or jump around on your head, then you have made the right choice.

Important details

When trying on the helmet, check that it is not only tight, but also comfortable. The strap and buckle should never push into your neck, but should be intuitive enough to make it easy to put the helmet on and take it off. In addition, it must be easy to put the helmet on even when wearing airsoft gloves.
